Fall Newsletter

Alpha Delta Pi Alumnae News
By Katy Sternenberg, Alumnae Relations

Greetings alumnae! School is now back in session and the Zeta chapter of Alpha Delta Pi is also back in full swing. This issue of Paw Prints will update all of our lovely Pi sisters on what our chapter has been up to, and events we would like to invite all of our alumnae to attend. On Saturday October 18th at 7:00 pm in the Howry Center, the Deltas will be hosting “Popcorn and Pis.” This event will be a fun movie night for all of our alumnae sisters and their daughters (ΑΔΠ legacies!). We will be watching Enchanted and The Lion King while bonding with our alumnae and their daughters. If you have any questions regarding this event please contact Katy Sternenberg (contact information on page 2.)

Also, don’t forget about Homecoming Weekend on November 7th through the 9th. On November the 8th there will be an Alpha Delta Pi Alumnae Reception at the Hospitality House across from campus at 3:00 pm. Immediately following, there will be ΑΔΠ Open Chapter Room in the Caskey Center.

All of the Deltas are looking forward to these events and to seeing our wonderful alumnae!

Recruitment Update
By Katy Sternenberg, Alumnae Relations

It’s that time again! Formal recruitment is just around the corner and continuous recruitment is already going on. This year we have many fun events planned to recruit the finest ladies for our chapter, including a new skit planned for the second night of recruitment and a Garden Party themed Preference night! All of the girls are very excited to meet the new freshman and begin recruiting. Formal Recruitment weekend is Thursday, January 15th thru Saturday, January 17th. We are looking for local alumnae to host Bid Night celebrations and also dinner during Initiation weekend (dates for Initiation TBA). If you would like to make a donation or volunteer to help our recruitment efforts please contact Laura Ann Lindholm (Z’02) via email at lauraann.lindholm@gmail.com or (281) 450-6005. We appreciate all of your support!

A Time to SING!
By Hannah Schaeffer, SING Chair

Every organization on campus that signs up for SING! is instructed to make up a short skit that embodies the group. Most often, skits contain a musical number that members of the organization perform. The skit must follow the theme that is decided on each year. This year, the theme for Homecoming weekend is "Southwestern's Greatest Hits," and because SING! will take place during Homecoming, the theme "One-Hit Wonders" has been chosen for the skits. The Zeta chapter will be performing a great act this year to be observed on Saturday, November 8th at 8:00 pm in the Alma Thomas Theatre! This is the first time SING! will be performed in Southwestern's recently renovated theatre, which makes the experience much more exciting. SING! is not only a fun experience for everyone who participates, but it is also a competition. First-place winners receive $500, second-place will be awarded $300 and third place wins $200. Zeta chapter is very excited to not only begin this fun experience, but also to represent Alpha Delta Pi in a positive and fun light to the school and the visiting Southwestern alumni. We are eager to earn back our title as first-place winners. So, please come join us at the show and support your Delta sisters!

Spotlight on Excellence
Congratulations are definitely in order for the First Year Leadership Award our Zeta member, Ursula James, received at the Southwestern Awards Ceremony that took place last May. This outstanding accomplishment was the result of Ursula’s fantastic grades while juggling a full course load and work. She was also very involved in school organizations including cross-country, S.E.A.K., Student Foundation, and (of course) Alpha Delta Pi. This new member of Zeta ’08 showed very strong leadership in all aspects of her life and clearly deserves recognition. The Zeta chapter could not be more proud of Ursula’s accomplishments!

Spotlight on Achievement
Julia Poritz, Zeta Chapter's Director of Standards and Ethics and Chaplin, has earned recognition for her outstanding job as College Buddy Director of the Southwestern Best Buddies organization. Best Buddies is an international non-profit organization that aides by providing people with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to form one-on-one friendships and find integrated employment. As an officer, Julia has helped organize the extremely successful Best Buddies Midnight Madness Fundraiser, which rose over $7,000. Julia raised the second most on the Southwestern campus, and Southwestern raised the fifth most in the nation! Her service in the community is greatly appreciate and admired by her sisters. We are all so proud of her!
